- Studied music in private lessons as a child.
- Performed in recitals.

- Percussionist in middle school concert orchestra.
- Drummer in middle school jazz band ensemble.
- Performed with middle school concert orchestra and jazz band ensemble
in fall, winter and spring concerts.
- Played in high school jazz band.
- Auditioned for and won position in Greenville All County High School Jazz Band.
- Traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida and performed with high school jazz band.
- Played in church youth praise band.
- Improvisational playing with friends away from school and church in basements and garages.
May 1982 - June 1990
- Worked professionally on nightclub circuit of upstate S.C.
- Toured nationally with Doc Tommy Scott Old Time Medicine Show.

- Played in church praise bands and orchestra.

- Played in Chance Wayne Band, which is an original blues/jazz/swing/country/country rock act.
